Medical data acquisition at the Faculty of Medicine of University of Perugia
CONCERTO project organized a medical multi-media data acquisition campaign in order to reproduce several eHealth scenarios at the Hospital of Perugia.
To foster the introduction of eHealth and mHealth services in the traditional medical practices, further work needs to be carried out in particular to guarantee the flawless transmission, through a resource-constrained environment as in wireless networks, of medical data, images, and videos in order to achieve the level of quality required by medical staff to promptly make correct diagnosis. Moreover, strong requirements in terms of data protection, secure transmissions and data privacy have to be fulfilled when dealing with sensitive information like medical data. Not to mention suitable network advances for an efficient, flexible and possibly backward compatible, exploitation of available resources over a mixture of wired and wireless technologies under the common IP-based infrastructure of the Next-Generation Networks.
The aim of the 1st Workshop on Wireless Solutions for Healthcare Applications (i.e., CONCERTO Workshop) was to bring together representatives of academia, industry and healthcare to present recent advances in wireless solutions that can benefit the development of new eHealth and mHealth applications. The event was held in Rome, Italy 8 Sept, 2014, under the umbrella of MoWNeT'14 conference. Three different sessions, 10 interesting presentations, curious and competent audience. What else do you need for a successfull workshop?
An improved version of the FP7 CONCERTO project demonstrator was presented in Bologna at the EUCNC 2014 conference. In addition to the presentation of the demonstrator, the conference was the occasion to submit a form on telemedicine to attendants.

CONCERTO presentation at Tridentcom 2014
Nowadays, the spreading and development of multi-access mobile devices together with the proliferation of different radio access technologies demand to design and implement algorithms which are able to exploit the available network resources. Aming to help research and development we propose an advanced, Android-based testbed and demonstration environment incorporating a cross-layer optimization platform and a flow-aware, client-based mobility management scheme. The testbed relies on MIP6D-NG. We presented our Android-based testbed and demonstration environment successfully during the 9th International Conference on Testbeds and Research Infrastructures for the Development of Networks & Communities 2014 in China. Our presentation and article can be found here. Tridentcom 2014 has received 149 paper submissions, and ïĴnally selected 49 regular papers. The acceptance rate was 32.89%. Please have a look at our photos below and see our papers in the publications section!
CONCERTO's FIA 2014 demo is on YouTube!
We have presented two scenarios. Here it is the one focusing on advanced IPv6 mobility management for mHealth services!

CONCERTO demonstration at Future Internet Assembly 2014
The demonstrator of the FP7 CONCERTO project aims at showing how multimedia processing and transmission strategies studied in the project can help the implementation of telemedicine procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of medical interventions. In particular, the scenario selected for the demonstration includes an emergency area where an ambulance is deployed and which sends multimedia streams (both medical and environmental) through wireless networks to a hospital where remote doctors can interact with the acquired multimedia streams and provide a diagnosis even before the arrival of the patient at the hospital. In FIA 2014 exhibition (Future Internet Assembly, Athens 18-20/03/2014), the two main areas of the full CONCERTO demonstration were represented, namely the emergency area and the hospital. At the emergency area side, CONCERTO showed the capability to combine in real time video acquisitions of multiple cameras in a single video stream which is coded adaptively according to cross layer information on available bandwidth or on user preferences. At the hospital side, all medical and environmental videos are stocked at a coordination centre. The demonstrator showed how the videos are transmitted on a tablet of a mobile user (i.e., a doctor walking inside the hospital) in real time and adaptively according to the interactive preferences of the user. A highly customized Android Smartphone deployed at the emergency side together with a cross-layer optimized and fine-grained (i.e., flow level) mobility management solution of MIP6D-NG capable to take advantage of different overlapping access networks (e.g., Wi-Fi and 3G) to enhance medical multimedia stream transmission to the hospital was also applied in the demonstration scenario.
We have our FIA2014 posters ready!

First International Workshop on Service Science for e-Health (SSH 2013)
Oct 9-12, 2013, Lisbon, PortugalCo-located with IEEE HEALTHCOM 2013 http://www.ssh.unige.ch
Service science is an emerging interdisciplinary approach to design, implement and evaluate complex service systems. It brings together science, ICT technologies and business to provide an added value to domain-specific applications of service-based systems. The application of service science in the e-Health area appears as a natural approach to build platforms, systems and applications which meet current and future demands of the healthcare domain.
The main aim of the SSH workshop was to bring together representatives of academia, industry and healthcare business to present recent advances in the field of e-Health. The workshop received ~70 submissions and 18 high quality papers were selected for presentation, focusing on the utilization of service science to develop new or enhance existing healthcare systems and services.
The presentations were organised in four sessions on: Image / video processing and transmission; Wireless, mobile, and streaming services; Planning, adaptation and assessment of e-health services; Case studies and disease prevention.
